Bronchial reactivity to histamine before and after sodium cromoglycate in bronchial asthma.
Out of 19 patients with extrinsic bronchial asthma challenged with 123 mug histamine acid phosphate by intravenous infusion only 13 responded with a fall in FEV1 of over 10% (mean 16%). Seventeen of these patients were given histamine 2 mg/ml by aerosol, and all responded with a mean decrease in FEV1 of 37.8%. When challenged with allergen extract by aerosol the mean decrease in FEV1 was 37.5%....
متن کاملH2 receptor blockade and bronchial hyperreactivity to histamine in asthma.
The role of histamine H1 and H2 receptors in the lung is not clear. H1 receptor blockade results in bronchodilatation and inhibition of histamine induced bronchoconstriction. H2 receptor blockade in vitro prevents the normal negative feedback of histamine on further mediator release in antigen challenge. Bronchospasm in guinea pigs given antigen challenge is enhanced by previous administration ...
متن کاملHuman platelet antigen polymorphism in bronchial asthma
Background: Asthma is recognized as a common cause of disability, of great economic cost, and of preventable deaths. In this study we aimed to test our hypothesis to evaluate the relationship between the Human Platelet Antigen-1(HPA-1) polymorphism and bronchial asthma and its severity, which would suggest genetic variances that may be responsible for expression or activation of these receptors...
متن کاملEffect of oral sodium cromoglycate and ketotifen in fish-induced bronchial asthma.
The effects of sodium cromoglycate and ketotifen were studied in a group of 20 patients in whom fish repeatedly provoked an attack of wheezing and dyspnoea within one hour of its being eaten. Fish ingestion resulted in a fall in forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) of at least 15%. All patients had a weal greater than 4 mm in response to fish antigen in the skinprick test and most had ...

in an alarmist and unhelpful way by members of staff.6 Patients' main worries were about the side effects of the drugs rather than about addiction, and so optimal management of pain should include adequate reassurance about these fears. There were significant differences in the degrees of pain perceived by patients and those that they thought the staff perceived. For some patients pain relief w...
